本展ではふくい桜まつり開催に合わせまして、江戸時代から現代までの幅広い作家によって描かれた桜にちなんだ作品を紹介します。 　日本において桜は、春が近づく頃に天気予報で開花予想が報じられ、百円硬貨のデザインにも採用されているほど日常と密接な関係にあります。緑の葉が落ちた寂しげな木々の景色や、寒さの中を過ごした先に出迎えてくれる暖かい日差しと桃色の花びらは、心を華やかにさせ、人々を魅了させる存在です。

画面のどこにいても目を奪われる桜の、被写体や自然と共に作り出す、時代を超えた物語を是非ご覧ください。

In conjunction with the Fukui Cherry Blossom Festival, this exhibition introduces works related to cherry blossoms painted by a wide range of artists from the Meiji period to the present. In Japan, cherry blossoms are so closely associated with daily life that weather forecasts predict their blooming around the time spring approaches and they are even used in the design of the 100-yen coin. The lonely view of trees with their green leaves falling and the warm sunlight and peach-colored petals that greet you after a long day of cold weather are a sight to behold, and they are a source of joy to the heart.

Japanese painter Chinami Nakajima, who has painted many old cherry trees, wrote the following from his book “Sakura Zukan (Illustrated Guide to Cherry Trees)”.

The reason why cherry blossoms are so special may lie in the way they bloom. Tiny flowers, tiny but well-shaped, bloom in clusters, and these clusters are more than just a bell on every branch. The overflowing, spilling blooms are the charm of this plant, combined with its vitality.
